The final show of The X Factor UK last night has a rather disappointing showing in the ratings, snagging 3.5 million LESS viewers than last year.
Despite guest appearances from Leona Lewis, JLS and One Direction, Saturday night’s show couldn’t bring in the big numbers like it used to, peaking at a 11.8 million viewers, but averaging at 10.6 million. Adding insult to injury is the fact that the show was BEATEN in the ratings by Strictly Come Dancing├óΓé¼Γäós semi-finals.
The blow has sources saying that Simon Cowell is “disappointed and concerned,” adding:
“Simon took some of the best staff behind the camera for X Factor USA and the new team haven’t worked out. There’s a feeling that people are happy to miss the Saturday show and catch up on Sunday because they didn’t care who won as much as in previous years.”
Actually, Simon even said something along those lines when asked about the evening’s events after the show. He told Xtra Factor:
“I’ve really enjoyed the show. [It] could have had a bit more controversy, but at the end of the day, it’s all about finding stars.”
Sure, but what’s the point in finding stars when 3.5 million LESS people are interested in them.
Whatever, we’re still huge fans of the show and we shall always be! Maybe it’s just time to shake things up a little bit next year. Give it something more fresh!
