Awww!
In an MTV interview that airs on Tuesday, Katy Perry opens up about Part of Me, her divorce, and her song writing process in general.
She even reveals that Wide Awake was just a Teenage Dream afterthought!!
Whaaaat? We love that song!!
The studio needed a track for the film’s closing credits and KP just sat down and hashed out the perfect tune!!
She explains:
“I love this song so much… It was a song that I hadn’t written for Teenage Dream. I was doing this movie and they asked me if I wanted to write an end-title song for the movie and I was like, ‘I know exactly what I want to say.’ I was really kind of dying to write another song at that point. I didn’t want to wait until I did a whole new record, and it’s kind of the perfect last word of me at this moment.”
Katy also talked about the concepts behind Teenage Dream — what her life was like while she wrote it and what she hoped to accomplish.
She confessed:
“I just wanted to tell a story about myself going through this journey, maybe sometimes trying to get out of the maze. There’s good parts, there’s bad parts. Of course, there have been a lot of things that went on last year that I had to get through and overcome. I think what probably kept me going is just the purity of my belief in music.”
That’s SO touching!!
We hate the crumby things your love-cookie Russell Brand did to you during your marriage, but we’re glad you were able to turn that hurt and pain into beautifully cathartic music!!
The world premiere for the Wide Awake video is Tuesday on MTV!
