Unlike other runway shows that took place during New York Fashion Week, Diane Von Furstenberg was one of the few designers who embraced models of color.
Diane says she insists on having diversity on the runway saying “I insist. It├óΓé¼Γäós my rule, and I always tell my casting agents. That├óΓé¼Γäós it! Otherwise, I don├óΓé¼Γäót hire them. I send everybody an e-mail right before Fashion Week to remind them to do it.”
For her past show, 16 of the 43 looks were modeled by women of color, which is way above average.
And DVF hopes her way of doing things will catch on. She explains “It├óΓé¼Γäós a habit. If you tell people it├óΓé¼Γäós cool, they├óΓé¼Γäóll do it. Changing human behavior takes a little while.”
Sometimes a little too long, considering this is 2010, but we applaud Diane for leading the pack!
