Rare Form Of Diabetes Linked To Attending College
This is crazy!
A study in Norway found that people who attend college may be at greater risk of developing a rare form of diabetes associated with autoimmunity.
Now, it’s important to note that going to college does not cause you to develop diabetes, but scientists are trying to discover what the underlying defect the people who go to college share.
“Subjects with high education may have a different lifestyle (or) be exposed to other environmental factors than people with low education, which may increase their risk,” said study author Lisa Olsson.
Researchers are speculating that people who go to college were exposed to fewer infections as a child, which some experts say is linked to diabetes.
The bottom line is this: Going to college will not cause you to develop diabetes. If you get diabetes, the problems that cause you to get it were already there.
