More than 10,000 people were protesting outside of the White House to fight the Keystone XL pipeline.
And among them was Mark Ruffalo.
The Keystone XL is a pipeline that would take oil from Canada to Texas refineries, and will keep us hooked on fossil fuels.
Daryl Hannah, who was arrested at a similar protest, said:

“This pipeline will only shackle us to a future of being absolutely dependent on this dirtiest of fossil fuels.”

So Ruffalo is calling for Obama to deny the pipeline permit.
He said:

“We invite the president to make good on his promises of a real renewable energy policy for the United States.
Now this President came into office on the promise of change. We are expecting it and if we don├óΓé¼Γäót get it from him├óΓé¼┬ª we are going to leave him behind. This is a direct democracy action. It is an action that is… is not just stopping here but going to be moving forward.
I am saying to the President… Now is your chance. You can deliver on what you promised us. 15,000 people are going to be here today and in our hands we are going to be holding the promises from his campaign. Ending the tyranny of oil in our generation was one of them.”

Mark Ruffalo and Daryl Hannah aren’t the only big names against the pipeline.
The Dalai Lama has even written a letter to Obama, asking him to:

“[…] say ├óΓé¼╦£no├óΓé¼Γäó to the plan proposed by the Canadian-based company TransCanada to build the Keystone XL, and to turn [his] attention back to supporting renewable sources of energy and clean transportation solutions.”

To all of this, Obama responded:

“My general attitude is, what├óΓé¼Γäós best for the American people? What├óΓé¼Γäós best for our economy both short term and long term? But also what├óΓé¼Γäós best for the health of the American people?”

We’re pretty sure pumping in more oil isn’t healthy for anyone.
