The Hollywood Moms star writes:
Easter has always been a big deal on our family. When I was kid growing up in Louisiana, the whole family would get together at our camp on the bayou and have huge egg hunts (have you ever tried looking for eggs in a densely wooded area? Now that is a real hunt!) and pocking competitions where you would try to crack the other person’s eggs. Not in a mean way! It was fun. My mother would also fix me a beautiful basket with candy and surprises, which is one of my favorite memories and a tradition I am making sure to continue for Estela, and Marcelo when he’s old enough.
This year we are celebrating as we usually do, by attending church on Easter Sunday followed by a party thrown by friends of ours. There will of course be an egg hunt (although not as extreme as the ones we used to have!) and the Easter Bunny will be there, which is always exciting for the kids. We are also dyeing our own eggs, and since right now Estela is into anything that sparkles I found the perfect thing for her: glittered eggs!
Another big part of Easter is the candy. I usually keep a tight rein on the amount of sweets Estela eats, but I feel this is one of the few times it’s OK to indulge so we are whipping up some delicious theme-appropriate treats together, including Peeps Rice Krispies Treats and S’mores made with Peeps instead of marshmallows. Crafts are always fun too, so we’re getting down and dirty to make this awesome centerpiece to bring to the party as well as some candy-inspired decorations.
Basically, I just want to make this day as special as I can for my little ones and create some fond memories for them to look back on when they’re all grown up, just like my mom did for me.
