Perezitos‘s nutrition expert Margaux J. Rathbun has some wonderful nutrition tips for you and your little ones!
This time it’s all about the healthiest and easiest way of cooking veggies!
Here’s what Margaux has to say:
“When it comes to cooking veggies, there is a right way to do it…and a wrong way. When your kids complain about not liking vegetables, it could be because you are overcooking them! When we steam, bake, or saute veggies for too long, they become slimy and lose a lot of their flavor. They also loose a lot of their nutrients. That’s why I recommend lightly steaming your veggies from anywhere to 4-7 minutes only. If you are cooking your veggies in an oil, be sure you research what the oil’s smoke-point is because heating the wrong type of oil will cause rancidity. Some of the best oils to cook with are coconut oil, peanut oil, and olive oil. The easiest (and most nutritious) way to eat veggies? Straight-up raw! Get your kids addicted to crunching on celery (full of vitamin C), cucumbers (contains folate for a healthy heart) and carrots (with vitamin A for eyes). Yum!”
That does sound deleesh!
