You go girl!
While Madonna has been busy attending the schools she helped build in Malawi, she now wants to help girls in Afghanistan and Pakistan get an education, and she’s doing it by auctioning off her Fernand Leger Trois femmes ├â┬á la table rouge painting in order to raise $$$ for the Ray of Light Foundation.
Her Majesty bought Leger’s painting back in 1990 at Sotheby’s, and considering that it’s worth a cool $5-$7 million now, she felt that handing it off to the Impressionist & Modern Art Evening Sale would be AH-MAYZING because she can help girls get their learn on.
It’s been reported that in Afghanistan only 12 percent of women are literate and only seven to every ten boys actually go to school, and because Pakistan has one of largest out-of-school children populations in the whole wide world, the pop princess wanted to do anything she could to help both countries.
Excited about her venture, Madge said:
“I have a great passion for art and a great passion for education. In conjunction with Sotheby├óΓé¼Γäós, I would like to share these two passions. I have chosen to auction this painting called Three Women by Fernand Leger and donate all the proceeds to support girls├óΓé¼Γäó educational projects in Afghanistan, Pakistan and other countries where female education is rare or nonexistent. I cannot accept a world where women or girls are wounded, shot or killed for either going to school or teaching in girls├óΓé¼Γäó schools. We don├óΓé¼Γäót have time to be complacent. I want to trade something valuable for something invaluable ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ Educating Girls! Knowledge is power. Let├óΓé¼Γäós change the world!”
The painting is set to be on display at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from April 3-7, in London from April 12-16 and will return to New York for exhibition Sotheby’s York Avenue galleries starting May 3.
So if you want the painting, U better start saving up your pennies because this is definitely a good cause!!
Werk it out Madonna!
