PBS viewers won’t be seeing any “Lemon Party”-ish nudity on television any time soon!
British actor Ian McKellen goes fully naked for his stage portrayal of King Lear.
However, when PBS airs the play on their Great Performances series, you won’t be seeing any wang.
Dang!
According to David Horn, the executive producer of the series, they will just “suggest” the nudity.
And McKellen is ok with that. Especially if it would take away the audience’s attention from the actual play.
He says,”If it’s a distraction of that sort, it’s not worth the candle.”
He also recalls his stage performances saying that “Every night, when I’d take my clothes off, you know what I used to do? Pull in my stomach. That’s pathetic. I was playing an old man. I should have let it all hang out, and I couldn’t do that.”
That’s good news for all PBS viewers.
But we would have liked to have seen him let it all hang out!
