Lorde recently made some comments about Drake and Nicki Minaj that were interpreted by and large as a diss, but now she wants to throw some light on that shade!
The Royals singer said she found their lyrical content – primarily about living large – to be irrelevant.
Lorde doesn’t deny the quote, but swears she is being misinterpreted by the media! She tweeted:
nice try @ComplexMag, but i have nothing but love and admiration for both nicki and drake (have said this x1000)
— Lorde (@lordemusic) November 27, 2013
just because their songs aren't my reality (being 17 and from auckland) doesn't mean i don't admire their musicianship and careers!
— Lorde (@lordemusic) November 27, 2013
OK, so she didn’t mean “why is ANYONE listening to their music,” she meant “why are we blingless teens listening to their music?”
Hmm. Seeing as how Drake, Nicki, and every other artist on the planet NEED the 99% to buy their albums, saying it doesn’t make sense to sing along with them is still a LITTLE BIT of a knock. No?
Maybe Lorde wants to think of her constant comments as constructive criticism of very talented musicians who she respects, but the distinction between that and a diss is a fine line to walk- even for a prodigy.
