Freedom was SO CLOSE!
An African-spurred tortoise named Samson made a break for it from an exotic animal farm in Arizona. He had made it out and was surviving on his own, making his way towards truer and truer freedom when he got caught up by an online ad and a microchip.
He had only gotten 30 miles away in six of the months that he was gone. So far, and yet so close!
LOLz!
The other six months he was missing, he was with a foster owner before the foster owner was alerted by the online ad and microchip. The foster owner was an Intel engineer and amateur herpetologist named Jonathan Grove.
Jonathan said this:

├óΓé¼╦£I went all over Hidden Valley handing out fliers, (but) basically all the people who called couldn’t describe Eddie. Eddie’s shell was so perfect that he was probably worth a lot of money. I really didn’t want somebody to come and flip him and put him on Craigslist.├óΓé¼Γäó

He had renamed him Eddie, which is probably the best name for a turtle ever. Way better than Samson.
It wasn’t until the local paper made Eddie the pet of the week that the rightful owners caught wind that he was found! In addition to the tortoises, the owners a wide array of peacocks, guinea hens, chickens and snakes.
Awww, what a happy ending!
We bet Jonathan was sad to see Eddie go, though!
