A restaurant in El Lay has some of its customers fah-reaking out when their bill hits the table. Because there’s an extra charge being added to everyone’s tab!
A healthcare charge!
R├â┬⌐publique is asking diners to pay for their employees’ health insurance costs by slipping a surcharge onto their bills!
The 3% extra may seem like a small price to pay for a healthy waitstaff, but a lot of the restaurant’s regulars are NOT okay with shelling out a second tip for their server!
One Yelp reviewer argued:
“It├óΓé¼Γäós not MY responsibility to take care of YOUR employees├óΓé¼Γäó healthcare├óΓé¼┬ª that├óΓé¼Γäós YOUR job!├óΓé¼┬¥
But the restaurant’s owner Walter Manske says anyone who doesn’t want to chip in to the healthcare costs, doesn’t have to! All you have to do it take that 3% out of whatever gratuity you were going to leave for your server!
Wait, that just means a smaller tip for them! Which is especially unfair, considering this surcharge is paying for ALL of the employee’s plans: dishwashers, hostesses, chefs, EVERYONE!
Under President Obama‘s Affordable Care Act, businesses like R├â┬⌐publique, that have over 50 full-time employees, are required by law to provide affordable healthcare benefits. Manske claims this is the only way he can comply with those new rules.
What do YOU think Perezcious readers?
Is health insurance worth it or are these servers getting SCREWED out of their hard-earned money??!
Sound off!
