Twelve people are dead and four more remain missing after an avalanche rocked the side of Mount Everest this morning.
The Nepalese guides had traveled ahead of a group of hikers to set ropes into place when the deadly snow disaster suddenly occurred.
Reports are that they were at an elevation of 21,000 feet in an area nicknamed “the popcorn field” for its bulging chunks of ice. They were still some 7,000 feet from reaching the summit.
Four people survived the avalanche and were airlifted to a hospital in Katmandu. Several others in the group are being treated at base camp.
Such a tragedy.
