Compliments are great, when they come from a sincere place. But can robots be sincere?
It’s a pretty well-known fact that robots are non-sentient beings that can only do what they’re programmed to do. So, even if they give compliments, those compliments are not going to come from the heart.
Robots don’t have hearts, that’s why!
Which is why plus-size UK clothing label Yours Clothing‘s new interactive dressing rooms that give pre-recorded compliments to customers when they try on clothes may not be the best idea.
We’re just saying! Not everybody is going to be flattered by a compliment that was recorded totally out of context.
The compliment-giving robot has no idea if you really look good in that strapless floral sun dress. It’ll say anything you want to hear to get you to buy something!
Nonetheless, Resh Dorka, the company’s sales and marketing director, is confident that it’ll be a hit. She said:
“We are excited to be opening a store in Uxbridge and the store joins a portfolio of many new store openings that will offer our customers a unique shopping experience.”
Some people might like the robotic compliments, but we don’t think everybody will be on board.
