You all know Taylor Swift‘s fans pay attention to whatever their fav puts out there. And why not? She’s famous for leaving clues around! Her legendary Easter Eggs often lead to her next move… when guessed correctly, that is!
During her Emmys cameo this year, when she starred in a pre-recorded Law & Order: SVU sketch, she straight up told the Swifties the answer for the next big case may be hiding in plain sight.
Well, what could be more in sight than her time at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards where she broke the record for most awarded moon men??
Take another look at the dress she wore:
It’s a gorgeous black and silver Tamara Ralph Autumn/Winter 2026 Couture gown featuring a sleeveless, sheer black bodice draped with a silver sequined skirt.
According to @swiftiemom1387’s theory, which you watch here, it also seems to be evocative of a snake shedding its skin — or, more specifically in this case, potentially Taylor shedding the past of that infamous 2009 VMAs ceremony when Kanye West interrupted her first VMA win??

Yeah, the silver sequined skirt from her 2026 gown does look reminiscent of her 2009 silver sequined Kaufmanfranco gown. And they do both have column silhouettes.

For those unaware, the snake was the big symbol for Taylor’s 2017 album, Reputation. And Swifties have been wanting a full re-release of her Reputation album for years. She released a Taylor’s Version album for multiple records, but still no Reputation.
With the recent release of The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, though, Swifties think they might finally be close to getting their wish. Not only did the Patient Zero music video seemingly pay homage to her Look What You Made Me Do music video (the first off Reputation) with the cemetery and gravestone, Swifties say they’ve been spotting hidden snakes, too. So could this gown choice be another clue that we’re closer to getting a new Reputation?
Or, at the very least, could it have been a brilliant symbol of Taylor finally shedding that haunted 2009 VMAs moment from her life for good?
After all, the 2009 VMAs was when Taylor won her first moon man for Best Female Video. It was then Ye walked on stage as she delivered her acceptance speech and interrupted her to essentially say Beyoncé’s music video for Single Ladies was superior.
Bey would later win Video of the Year, so if only he had waited, he would have seen Bey get her deserved recognition. Instead, when Bey won the biggest award of the night, she gracefully deferred her time on stage to Taylor, allowing the young pop star to finish her speech. So Amber Rose‘s then-boyfriend had not only ruined Taylor’s win, his actions resulted in Bey not really getting her time either.
The infamous 2009 moment was heartbreaking for Taylor, who was actually a big fan of Ye’s at the time. Of course, that was 17 years ago, and Taylor has since become one of the world’s biggest superstars. So on Sunday, as she arrived to the ceremony that would ultimately give her the inaugural Artist Director Honors AND the record for most VMAs won by an artist, was her gown intentionally paying homage to the full circle symbolism of it all? Or was it just one sparkly coincidence???
As many Swifties would say, there’s no such thing as a coincidence when it comes to their Mastermind.
