Pamela Anderson Won't Have Anything To Do With The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge -- But Her Reason Why Might Surprise You!

Pamela Anderson
Inneresting.
Nowadays, Pamela Anderson is more famous for her stance on animal cruelty than for roles!
And she’s once again making her pro-PETA beliefs heard.
Like most celebrities recently, Pam was dared to take part in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.
However, unlike most celebs, the 47-year-old actually refused to take part in the charity fundraiser due to the ALS Association‘s use of animal testing while trying to find a cure for the disease.
In a very lengthy Facebook post, Pamela rejected the challenge, saying:

“Sorry – I can’t bring myself to do your Ice bucket challenge.
I enjoy a good dare – It’s always good to bring awareness – in fun, creative ways / I don’t want to take away from that.
but it had me thinking.
I thought Instead / I’d challenge ALS to stop Animal testing.”

Hmmmm.
While we’re more than bummed to find out that the ALSA tests on animals, we can’t help but feel like Pam is placing the blame on the wrong people. Plus, here’s what the ALSA had to say about their testing:

├óΓé¼┼ôSignificant advances have been made in ALS and other neurological disorders such as Alzheimer├óΓé¼Γäós Disease and Parkinson├óΓé¼Γäós Disease using model systems such as rodents, flies and worms to better understand disease mechanisms and to develop therapies. With advances in technology made possible through research funding from The ALS Association, different approaches to minimize the use of these model systems are being developed. Similar to organizations globally, The ALS Association supports laboratories and scientists that strictly adhere to the guidelines provided by the National Institutes of Health. The Association is committed to honoring donor intent. If a donor is not comfortable with a specific type of research, he or she can stipulate that their dollars not be invested in that particular area.”

While the money donated through the challenge is directly benefiting the association, the real people who are winning from all of this are the ALS sufferers.
But hey, we guess if Pam can bring attention to animal rights while still technically talking about ALS, then we’re kind of getting the best of both worlds.
Way to stand by your morals, Pam!
