Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen TONS of celebs participate in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge to raise money and spread awareness for an excellent cause!
However, one issue that still seems to be getting swept under the rug is the violence occurring in Ferguson, Missouri following the shooting and killing of Mike Brown.
Well actor Orlando Jones decided to take the Ice Bucket Challenge himself, but he put a twist on it to turn the attention to the struggle happening in Ferguson. Instead of pouring water on himself, he used a bucket filled with bullet casings and followed with a very clear message, saying:
“I’m a lifetime member of the NRA and an active member of the great state of Louisiana’s police force, obviously a special member. So I’m not pointing any fingers here at anybody but myself, and I’m asking something very hard of myself. I’m challenging myself to listen without prejudice, to love without limits, and to reverse the hate. So that’s my challenge to me, and hopefully you’ll accept this challenge too.”
Wow. That’s a VERY powerful message.
Of course, Orlando STILL donated the money for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, but he also used his time to raise awareness on another HUGE issue that still needs plenty of attention. Well played, Orlando!
