After we heard this piece of news our world turned upside down!
According to Sanrio, the company behind Hello Kitty, the famous character is NOT a cat. We repeat, Hello Kitty is NOT a cat.
Uhm, yeah, we’re confused too.
Christine R. Yano, an anthropologist from the University of Hawaii who is curating the upcoming Hello Kitty retrospective at the Japanese American National Museum in October, uncovered the crazy truth.
Christine explained:
“That’s one correction Sanrio made for my script for the show. Hello Kitty is not a cat. She’s a cartoon character. She is a little girl. She is a friend. But she is not a cat. She’s never depicted on all fours. She walks and sits like a two-legged creature. She does have a pet cat of her own, however, and it’s called Charmmy Kitty.”
Well, we guess it would be weird for a cat to own another cat!
What we don’t understand is why a “human” looks so much like a…CAT!
So, what’s going to rock our world next? Is Goofy not a dog because Pluto is on all fours?
Now that we think about it?!
