One of the original Village People isn’t singing Y.M.C.A anymore, and he’s not happy that you think he is!
Victor Willis, the original cop, wants the new version of the group to stop using his voice and likeness.
Willis even filed a lawsuit last week to stop the unauthorized use.
According to the suit, Victor claims that different companies continue to use his voice as well as his picture in order to promote the new group and their appearances.
He claims the use of his image and songs misleads fans into thinking they will be seeing the original Village People.
Willis is suing New York company Sixuvus Ltd, which currently promotes the new Village People. He is also suing William Morris Agency, amd Can’t Stop Productions, which owns the trademark to the group’s name, along with several other venues where the new band has performed.
He is seeking at least $1 million and an order by the judge that they can no longer use his voice or image.
Who knew The Village People were still around and performing?
