DIY Delight! Make Your Own Distressed Jeans With Penny Chic's Shauna Miller & YouTuber Allie Marie Evans!

Wheee! Just in time for summer, Shauna Miller — author and creator of Penny Chic — is here with the PERFECT tutorial!
The DIY maven has paired up with YouTube star Allie Marie Evans to show you how to take your old, boring jeans and turn them into something sexy and fun!
Inspired by Kim Kardashian‘s over-distressed denim pants, Shauna and Allie created their own version for just a tiny fraction of what it probably cost Kimmy!
The best part is that it’s so easy, and you only need a handful of supplies to pull it off.
Watch the video (above) and/or the step-by-step GIF tutorial below!

Step 1: Choose an old pair of jeans, lay it flat on a sturdy surface (like a table), take a washable crayon and draw a rectangular shape on each pant leg right below where you would typically cut if you were making cut-offs. Careful, too high and you’ll end up showing the world more than you bargained for!
TIP: Make one rectangle bigger than the other for a sense of edgy asymmetry.

Step 2: Take a pair of scissors, pinch a section of the jeans right where you drew the rectangle, snip a hole, then carefully cut off the rectangle. Repeat on other leg.

Step 3: Take sandpaper, fold it in half, and rub the folded edge along the jeans to create smaller holes around the larger ones. Also, use the sandpaper to fray the edges of the rectangular holes you just made. This creates an even more distressed look.

BONUS: This is a really good arm workout!

Step 4: Mix one part bleach and one part water in a bowl, and dip the cuffs of the jeans in the mixture for about 15-20 minutes for a cool tie-dye effect, then throw the jeans in the wash for a cycle. This will fade the color and create some splatter designs on the fabric.
Et voila! You’re ready to turn heads in your finished product!

TIP: To offset the irreverent aspect of the jeans, style them with a proper collared shirt, high-heeled black sandals, and a smart-looking camel satchel with zippered accents. Or just do whatever you want!
