If only her body had a say…
Demi Lovato is one of the most outspoken celebs in regards to body positivity, especially when it comes to dealing with eating disorders.
However, the Body Say singer may have taken her role as a social justice warrior too seriously over the weekend when she critiqued a fan-made drawing… because now some of her fans are calling her out for being too harsh!

Apparently, a Romanian Lovatic named VladyArt shared some Instagram art depicting Demi as a mermaid earlier over the Summer.
While the picture initially went unnoticed, Demi had a negative response to the nearly-NSFW drawing when it was regrammed just before the weekend, commenting:
“Is that how my boobs should look? It’s gorgeous but that’s not my body.”
Demi’s criticism of the imagery was totally understandable, especially given her stance on body positivity. But the artist took the criticism to heart.
As it turns out, the fan behind the piece is actually just a 17-year-old named Vladimir Serbanescu, who said after the criticism he no longer even enjoys his own piece, responding:
If i make your waist slimmer and your boobs bigger to accentuate the fact that i drew you as a mermaid, a mythological creature, doesn’t mean I say that you should look like that or all girls should look like that. That’s how i imagine mermaids. I worked a lot on that drawing and i was proud of it, but not anymore. @ddlovato. That’s a fair point, and kind of sad.
Some fans thought Demi was being overly critical of an imperfect (and fantastical) fan drawing:
A fan took their time to make artwork of Demi Lovato & she has the nerve to hate on it because it “doesn’t look like her body”? Stfu Demi├░┼╕╦£ΓÇÖ

Imagine drawing Demi as a mermaid for her to say it’s offensive bc her boobs don’t look like that irl. Does ur tail not look like that too?

Can’t believe someone took their time to draw Demi Lovato as a mermaid, probably took 2 hours, & all she could say was “it’s unrealistic”

Sorry Demi Lovato that a 17 year old girl who drew fan art of you didn’t know how your boobs looked.

Others thought Demi was absolutely right to call out the imperfect body image being propagated by the image:
Demi’s point was mermaids are always drawn as skinny so if you’re gonna put demis face on a mermaid make it curvy for the bish

he literally said that he drew demi skinny because her body didn’t fit his image of a mermaid so https://t.co/GlElHyQQlk

We understand both sides here… ultimately it’s her body, and she’s allowed to like/dislike any depictions of it that she sees fit — but did she maybe call the fan out the wrong way?
What do U think, Perezcious Readers??
