Paris Hilton‘s sex tape may’ve catapulted her into fame, but that doesn’t mean she looks back on that time fondly.
As you surely know, 14 years ago, the blonde heiress was at the center of scandal thanks to a XXX home video made with then-boyfriend Rick Salomon. The tape, which was filmed in her late-teens, surfaced online in 2003 and made her a household name.

Understandably, the hotel scion is in no way grateful to the distribution of the tape. In fact, Paris still feels the negative impact the home video left on her psyche. According to USA Today, in the documentary The American Meme, Miz Hilton equated the release of her sex tape to “being raped.”
She relayed:
“It was like being raped. It felt like I’d lost part of my soul and been talked about in such cruel and mean ways. I literally wanted to die at some points. I was like, ‘I just don’t want to live,’ because I thought everything was taken away from me. I didn’t want to be known as that.”
Poor thing. We think many people forget how young she was at the time of the controversy.
We can’t say we’re surprised by Paris’ strong sentiments, as she’s expressed her disdain for the leak on several occasions. In 2017, she told Marie Claire that it “is actually the one regret in [her] life.”
Thankfully, the 37-year-old’s brand has grown far beyond the scandalous sex tape. Her social media empire is one of many highlighted in The American Meme, which premiered at the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival this past weekend.
Hopefully filming this documentary helped Paris achieve some closure regarding her sex tape scandal!!
