Awww! We’d LOVE to see this!
During a recent interview, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s son Nick opened up about his upcoming musical adaptation of Antoine De Saint-Exupery’s classic children’s book The Little Prince, which will debut at the UK’s Lyric Belfast theater on December 1st.
Here’s what Nick had to say about it:
“[I’m] very nervous. In terms of the pressure, I├óΓé¼Γäóm very aware there├óΓé¼Γäós going to be some… attention, but I├óΓé¼Γäód just like to think that the show will be judged on its own merits. That├óΓé¼Γäós all anyone can ask for.”
“For a long time, I dropped the Lloyd bit ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ to see what the reaction would be. I got some stuff on the radio ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ so I thought ‘OK, I├óΓé¼Γäóm obviously not a complete idiot.├óΓé¼Γäó Then I thought, ‘Hang on, if other people are prepared to work with me without the surname then maybe I should just get on with it.'”
And here’s Nick on whether or not his dad helped out with The Little Prince:
“He├óΓé¼Γäós too busy for one thing. We did send him Act 1 when we finished it. I said to him, ‘Be honest ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ don├óΓé¼Γäót be Dad, be composer.├óΓé¼Γäó And he gave us some notes ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ some of which we agreed with, some of which we didn├óΓé¼Γäót.”

Written by Antoine De Saint-Exupery, THE LITTLE PRINCE tells the story of a pilot’s unexpected crash landing in the Sahara Desert. While in the desert, the pilot meets the Little Prince — a young boy from another planet. The Prince shares his unique adventures that he experienced while traveling throughout the solar system. The book has been adapted into 180 different languages, various musical interpretations (including a children’s version), and a film.
Such a wonderful, classic story! We’re VERY curious to see if it translates well into musical form!
