We came up with an idea about blue aliens too! Maybe we should try to get some of that Avatar $$$!!!!!! Ha!
Waaaay back in March 2010, author Zhoe Shaomou was claiming that James Cameron took the idea for Avatar directly from his 1997 novel Tale of the Blue Crows…and he was looking for $145 million in copyright infringement money.
That was the last we heard about THAT lawsuit.
Now, sci-fi enthusiast Eric Ryder is suing James because he claims he came up with the idea for Avatar while working for Cameron’s production company back in 1997.
According to Ryder, he came up with a movie concept called KRZ 2068, which was an “environmentally themed 3-D epic about a corporation’s colonization and plundering of a distant moon’s lush and wondrous natural setting.”
Ryder also says he came up with the idea of “self-contained robotic exterior suits which house a single human operator,” which are featured in Avatar.
The lawsuit claims that Ryder’s reps had lots of meetings with Cameron’s company back in ’99, but then in 2002, the company said “no one would go see an environmentally themed feature length science fiction movie.”
If it is true, then this guy should definitely get properly compensated….but we’re thinking he’s gonna need some CONCRETE evidence if he thinks he’s got ANY chance in hell against James Cameron’s lawyers!
