'Antiques Roadshow' Guest Literally Falls Over After Learning How Much His Old Rolex Is Worth -- Watch!

Antiques Roadshow Rolex watch biggest find

Good things come to those who wait a half a century or so!

An Air Force veteran from West Fargo, North Dakota stopped by Antiques Roadshow to get a Rolex he purchased in the mid-’70s appraised — and literally fell backward when he learned how much it’s worth today.

The man, identified as David, told appraiser Peter Planes he paid about $345 for his 1971 Rolex Oyster Cosmograph in Thailand while he was stationed there from 1973 to 1975. David said he became intrigued with Rolexes after seeing pilots wear them and decided he wanted to buy one after hearing they were good to take scuba diving.

But the watch didn’t see much adventure when he arrived home. David said he kept the timepiece in a safe deposit box, where it stayed for roughly “30 to 40 years,” aside from the brief moments the vet took it out to inspect it.

Noting that the price of the watch was worth about a month’s salary, David said:

“It was a lot of money for myself.”

Now, it’s worth a lot of money. Period.

Planes said the watch is extremely popular thanks to Paul Newman wearing a similar model in the 1969 film Winning — setting the current value at about $150,000 to $200,000.

But David’s watch is “more special,” he added, explaining:

“Your watch is more special. It says ‘Oyster’ on it. They did that for an extremely short period of time… This particular model… is extremely, extremely rare. A watch like this at auction is worth about $400,000.”

Naturally, the valuation literally knocked David off his feet — but Paul wasn’t done yet!

He continued:

“Don’t fall. I’m not done yet. I said a watch like yours. Because of the condition of it, basically it’s a new old stock watch. No wear on it, the original foil sticker on the back of it, and the fact that we have all this complete documentation here also – it may be one of the very few in the whole world that still was never worn.”

So, how much is this thing worth!?

Your watch, at auction today, (is worth) $500,000 to $700,000… I’m very serious… It’s an absolute fabulous find. It’s one of the rarest Paul Newman models and in this condition, I don’t think there’s a better one in the world. I can’t thank you enough for bringing me one of the greatest watches to ever see on Antiques Roadshow and thank you very much for your service.”

Wow!

David also saved the original documents that came with the watch, which Planes said were probably worth about an additional $2,000.
