If this is the case, Australia is going to see a lot less American talent coming through their ports of call!
The folks of Australia are looking to pass a “name and shame” law that would require artists to claim ahead of time if they plan on singing live or lip-syncing through their performance. The news of this new system comes as Britney Spears arrives to perform 14 shows for the Aussies while charging upwards of $1500 for a ticket and will not be singing live!
Of course, we all know that she’ll probably lip-sync, but folks down under think it is unfair to charge some extreme prices when patrons aren’t getting a full “live” show.
Virginia Judge, the Fair Trading Minister and Minister Assisting the Premier on the Arts, said she would much rather people go see local talent than a costly “Mickey Mouse performance” :
“Let’s be clear – live means live. If you are spending up to $200 I think you deserve better than a film clip. The NSW Government would be happy to look at options, such as a disclaimer on a ticket which would warn consumers a performance is pre-recorded.”
You’re missing the point lady – we already know they don’t sing live, and we don’t care! Brit-Brit’s tour promoter down under, Steve Dixon, put it perfectly when responding:
“This is a pop spectacular, this is a showband show. You come for the experience. There is a lot to see about this show, there’s nothing like this in the world. Britney Spears will entertain you, that’s what people come for. We absolutely give them a show.”
And it’s true – she does put on quite a show!
But then again, we could see where some people would be unhappy.
We’re torn on this one.
What do U think?
