Are The Avengers Going To Lose An Avenger?

If there were any group of film characters that we thought were safe from needing to be avenged, it would be The Avengers!

However, in a recent interview, Avengers writer-director Joss Whedon let the world know that no one is safe. He talked about the possibility that one of the Marvel’s magnificent seven six (plus Nick Fury) could get the axe hammer:

“I’m always joking about that. Um…maybe?”

Haha! Good joke, Joss…wait, “maybe?” No! Don’t you go all Game of Thrones on us and start killing off characters we’ve grown probably unhealthy attached to!

Plus, we as a society can’t take any more people with the last name Stark dying. Ever. (Cue: Rains of Castamere and us sobbing.)

Joss continued, basically saying that, before we start imagining the Hulk sleeping with the fishes, we should know that no character’s death is certain as of right now, and the decision to terminate is not taken lightly:

├óΓé¼┼ôBut I├óΓé¼Γäód have to have a really good reason, a really great sequence for [Marvel executives] to go, ├óΓé¼╦£We├óΓé¼Γäóll cut off a potential franchise, that├óΓé¼Γäós fine!├óΓé¼Γäó They know as any good studio does, that without some stakes, some real danger, how involved can we get? We don├óΓé¼Γäót just rule it out across the board, but neither is the mission statement ├óΓé¼╦£Who can we kill?├óΓé¼Γäó We try to build the story organically and go, ├óΓé¼╦£How hard can we make it on these people?├óΓé¼Γäó You go to the movies to see people you love suffer – that├óΓé¼Γäós why you go to the movies.├óΓé¼┬¥

Well, that makes us feel slightly better. Sort of. Very slightly.

Now, if you’ll excuse, we have to hug our Thor stuffed animal for a couple of hours, and shake in a fetal position.
