Former Bachelorette Katie Thurston Gives Devastating Update On Her Cancer Battle

Katie Thurston has some heartbreaking news for fans.

The former Bachelorette revealed last month that she was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. It’s a tough blow, but she told everyone at the time she was ready “to fight this.” She’s been documenting her health journey online since then, sharing on her “Boobie Broadcast” channel that she had a Zoladex injection on Monday. For those who don’t know, Zoladex is a hormone that helps shrink tumors by reducing the production of estrogen. It’s a pretty painful injection. She wrote:

“Asked for ice ahead of time and that helped. Refused to look at the needle once learning it was so big. Biopsies went way better today compared to at Kaiser. I can’t help but feel like the medical teams that see my cry, wonder why I signed up for ispy. Twice they’ve asked me if I’m part of the trial. As if a mistake. People outside of my regular team anyway. Do I cry too much? Hyperventilating too much? Not brave enough? I’m here to stay as long as they’ll allow it.”

Sadly, however, Katie has had a major setback with her diagnosis, and her upcoming treatment has now been paused. Why? Her doctors found two spots on her liver, indicating she “most likely” has a “metastatic disease.” Basically, this means her cancer is likely spreading. And according to Katie, she would be removed from the I-SPY clinical trial if that’s the case. Oh no…

However, the former reality star won’t officially know anything for sure until she has the biopsy done later this week and gets the results. She said in another update on Monday:

“My biopsy is scheduled Friday which would have been my treatment day. We now wait. She seemed to be leaning more on the cancer in the liver vs optimistic it was nothing. This would put me at stage 4. I’d love to hear from my sisters who are stage 4 in terms of quality of life, motherhood, etc.”

Absolutely devastating…

Katie just got married to Jeff Arcuri over the weekend. She should be celebrating with her new hubby now but received the worst possible news instead. Just awful. Our hearts go out to Katie during this time. We really hope things turn out differently than she is expecting.
