The 77-year-old Senator from Vermont first made the announcement in an email to supporters early this morning; a few hours later, CBS This Morning aired an interview with the Senator (above) in which he expands upon his campaign.
In the email to supporters, Sanders stressed why he was running in the first place — and it ain’t about Donald Trump (below):

“Our campaign is not only about defeating Donald Trump. Our campaign is about transforming our country and creating a government based on the principles of economic, social, racial and environmental justice.”

He joins a crowded field of Democrats running for President against Trump this season, of course.
Arguably, the politician has a leg-up on some of the field in some ways, considering Sanders’ previous run in 2016 before he bowed out to Hillary Clinton after the primaries.
