Pip pip, cheerio!
Are the Brits sooo proper they feel the need to censor one of Queen Beyonc├â┬⌐‘s latest tracks?!
Survey says: YES…for one radio station!
Bey’s latest single Drunk In Love has landed the singer in some hot, sexy water over its controversial lyrics!
Bang Radio has announced this week that they’ll only air an edited version of the popular pop song – because one of Jay Z‘s rap verses promotes “domestic violence against women.”
The lyrical situation they speak of is:
Now eat the cake, Anna Mae / I said eat the cake, Anna Mae.
Beyonc├â┬⌐’s hubby was referencing a line from the film What’s Love Got to Do With It, about Tina Turner and Ike Turner‘s tumultuous relationship!
In a statement for the station, CEO Jennifer Ogole revealed:
“The lyrics controversially imitate a scene of severe domestic violence. We believe in the unity of women and music and in no way condone violence, domestic or otherwise, especially not through the power of music. Therefore, the decision has been made to wipe the stated lyrics from the song … Respectful of what our audience [wants] to hear on Bang Radio, we feel this is the right action to take in regards to the controversial lyrics of the song and we will continue to serve in social equality for people through music and content on our station.”
Bang Radio’s choice is a bold one – but they won’t be able to censor B and J at the 2014 Grammys when they *hopefully* perform together THIS SUNDAY!
Fingers crossed we see them, and their serfbort singing Drunk!
