Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are trying really hard to keep their friend Taylor Swift out of her legal drama… despite Blake dragging her into it in the first place!
On Thursday, Blake’s legal team appeared at a virtual court hearing to request a protective order to ensure the privacy of her texts with celebrity friends amid her legal fight against Justin Baldoni, who she fears will “leak” them to the press.

Her attorney Meryl Conant Governski expressed per Page Six:
“There is a significant chance of irreparable harm if marginal conversations with high profile individuals with no relevance to the case were to fall into wrong hands.”
Obviously Taylor is at the top of that list, but you also have her sister Robyn Lively, pals Gigi Hadid, Emily Blunt and John Krasinski, singer Florence Welch… And that’s not to mention her famous hubby and his friends, like Hugh Jackman and Rob McElhenney.
As for why the It Ends With Us director might try to use these messages to his advantage, the lawyer continued:
“There are 100 million reasons for these parties to leak information because the PR value is greater than complying with the court’s orders.”
She also pointed out the filmmaker’s co-defendants “include people whose businesses, whose entire living is based on providing information to the press and content creators.” Oof. Because of this, the lawyer asked for an “Attorney’s Eyes Only” category for the sensitive information, which would include texts and the Gossip Girl star’s medical records.
Justin’s lawyer Brian Freedman had mixed thoughts on the request. First, he agreed that Blake’s medical records shouldn’t be disclosed and insisted his team has “no intention” of violating the court’s order when it comes to that. The texts, however? Not so much.
He argued that Blake and Ryan’s request would unfairly treat “celebrity people” and “people who are powerful in the industry” differently from others. He argued that he’s “gone to great lengths to not mention third parties by name,” noting:
“I think the model order protects everyone.”
He continued:
“We shouldn’t be put in a position where we are the ones that have to run to court every single time just given attorney’s eyes only protection. […] My clients have a right to defend themself, they have a right to transparency.”
Judge Lewis Liman did not make a decision during the hearing, but he did note that the court is “strong in terms of protecting the rights of the public.”
As Perezcious readers know, as part of his countersuit against his co-star, Justin claimed Blake sabotaged him by using her powerful “dragons” — Ryan and Taylor — against him. He redacted the pop star’s name from some of his paperwork, but it was still all too obvious who he was talking about. And his lawyer has also opened up about possibly deposing the singer. So, there’s no doubt she’s involved.
Getting pulled into this legal fiasco has reportedly driven a wedge between the female friends. So, it’s no wonder Blake’s trying to do everything she can to protect Taylor now. It may be too little too late, though!
Reactions, Perezcious readers? Do U think these texts should be private?
