By now, you’ve no doubt heard that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie got married in secret over the weekend.
But after all this time, why now? Sure Emmys weekend was a good idea for keeping it secret, but really, what’s the significance of the date?
Everyone is reporting that the couple have been together since their 2005 film Mr. & Mrs. Smith, but the actual filming of that flick took place in 2004. See where we’re going?
It was their 10-year reunion!
But it turns out the place was special too. The couple had been planning to wed at their French estate Chateau Miraval for some time. Why?
To fulfill an old promise.
According to an inside source, Angie made a vow to her mother Marcheline Bertrand, who passed in 2007. The source says:

“Angelina promised her mother before she died that she’d get married in France. They were extremely close and this is Angie’s way of honoring her.”

Aww, how sweet! Getting married in France WHILE wearing her mother’s gold locket? What a beautiful tribute!
