The first cut of Sacha Baron Cohen’s Bruno has – not surprisingly – received an NC-17 rating from the MPAA society.
Among the “objectionable” scenes is “one in which Bruno — a gay Austrian fashionista played by Baron Cohen — appears to have anal sex with a man on camera. In another, the actor goes on a hunting trip and sneaks naked into the tent of one of the fellow hunters, an unsuspecting non-actor.”
Because scenes of graphic violence are a-okay, but you can’t let the kiddies know that people are – gasp! – naked under their clothes!!!
Universal refuses to release the movie with an NC-17 rating, so Baron Cohen will have to return to the editing room to make the appropriate cuts.
After all, they still need to make money off of the unrated DVDs!
While some sources are saying that Baron Cohen is struggling to re-edit the movie to conform to the MPAA’s inconsistent ratings systems, another source is saying that the filmmer is just fine because “With the quantity of material available, I cannot foresee a problem. It’s not even April and the film comes out July 10 so it’s nonsense to say there’s a struggle of any kind.”
We don’t doubt that Sacha will be able to appease the MPAA while still getting his point across.
Just look at Borat!
