But What I Really Wanna Do Is Produce!

Simon Cowell is trying his luck in the film biz now.

The X Factor and American Idol judge is producing a film called Star Struck, a modern reworking of the classic film musical Fame.

The movie is set behind the scenes of a TV singing competition akin to those he is so successfully involved with.

And, just like those shows, the leads in the film will be cast through US auditions similar to those used on Idol.

“The story is told through the eyes of those 10 contestants,” says Simon. “We want it to be the musical version of Rocky – an underdog story, a feel-good film. Fame was all about young people wanting to be famous, and in order to do that, they enrolled in a drama school. The difference 25 years later is that everyone who wants to be famous today signs up for American Idol. We always believed that a TV show like Idol would be successful. I have the same feeling about doing the movie.”

Sounds interesting.

That Cowell sure knows a good gimmick!
