In case you didn’t read about it or see the movie starring Julia Roberts, Erin Brockovich, Pacific Gas & Electric paid $333 million to residents of Hinkley, CA in 1997 for allowing cancer-causing chromium to leak into the groundwater.

And guess what? They didn’t learn their lesson, and it’s happening again! WTF?!

A “plume” of chromium has spread in the groundwater 1,800 feet outside the intended containment boundary. PG&E is denying that things are out of control.

Said Robert C. Doss, PG&E principal engineer:

├óΓé¼┼ôThese concentrations remain within the realms of naturally occurring background concentrations. There is no way to determine whether our plume is having an impact or not.”

In a phone interview, (the real) Erin Brockovich said that she is on her way to help:

“Once again, this is a community of sitting ducks. I’ll be out there soon to help encourage people to get the word out, to start knocking on doors and examining water and soil test results. Then we’ll decide how to proceed.”

“PG&E should step up to the plate, take responsibility and act on it. But I’m not holding my breath,├óΓé¼┬¥ she added.

Looks like we might be in for a sequel!
