Cameron Diaz & Benji Madden's Alternating Sleep Schedule Makes Parenting Baby Raddix A Breeze During Quarantine!

Cameron Diaz says she and Benji Madden's sleeping schedules make for great parenting.

Cameron Diaz is sharing some rare insight into her daily life as a new parent!

The 47-year-old retired actress chatted with makeup artist Gucci Westman on Wednesday for an Instagram Live session and explained how she and husband Benji Madden‘s differing sleep schedules make parenting 3-month-old Raddix Madden so much easier amid the coronavirus quarantine.

Cameron said she prefers getting to bed early while Benji is more of a night owl, which works out nicely in regards to their newborn’s feeding schedule:

“Benji wants to go to bed late, and I like to go to bed early. That works so well for us as parents. I can go to bed a few hours early and he does those later feeds with her.”

The switch-off allows the parents to be alert and well-rested when they need to be, as she continued:

“[Then] I can wake up early and be with her in the morning and he can sleep.”

Aww, nice. Now, that’s teamwork!

Diaz also explained this pattern is consistent with her general lifestyle, even before the coronavirus, because she’s always been an early riser who enjoys staying busy throughout the day:

“I literally get up and don’t stop moving until I lay my head down on the pillow. I’m so used to going, going, going. My engine starts and I don’t idle through the day.”

The added responsibility of tending to her daughter is all the more reason to keep that engine running smoothly with a solid night’s rest. We’re glad to hear that’s a top priority and that daddy is doing his part, too!

The typically private star previously opened up about parenting in conversation with her friend, Who What Wear CEO Katherine Power, earlier this month. Reflecting on how things have changed for her since the big shutdown, she admitted:

“I’ve kinda been living a quarantine life anyhow because I have a three month old, three-and-a-half month. So my life has been completely quiet and still for the last few months. But I was able to have my friends over all the time. And now I just don’t see anybody… But it’s nice, and I love a bubble and being in the womb of my home with my husband and cooking.”

Cameron added that she loves being a mom and feels “so lucky” to be holed up with Benji and Raddix — but even with all the comforts of home, COVID-19 related anxiety is still very real! On how she copes, Diaz said:

“The way I’m making it through this time is by staying in the present. I stay in the here and now.”

That’s the spirit, gurl! Sounds like the whole fam is keeping a level head through these difficult times and we hope they all continue to stay safe and happy through it all.
