Cardi B DENIED 'Okurrr' Trademark!

Cardi B denied trademark!

Cardi B fans are NOT okurrr with this!
As we reported earlier this year, Cardi B filed paperwork with the United States Patent and Trademark Office to trademark her well-known catchphrase.

According to records obtained by Page Six on Tuesday, the Bodak Yellow rapper’s request got DENIED!
Apparently, officials determined the saying was a “widely-used commonplace expression.”
They even used Redbubble, Etsy, Teepublic, Society6, Refinery 29, People, USA Today, Urban Dictionary, and Dictionary.com as evidence that “this term or expression is commonly used in the drag community and by celebrities as an alternate way of saying ‘OK’ or ‘something that is said to affirm when someone is being put in their place.'”
Because the chirp is so “widely-used,” it is not necessarily inherent to the musician’s likeness.
Though the 26-year-old is allowed to file her own evidence to prove otherwise, it is unclear if she will appeal.
In her application, Cardi said she wanted to use the phrase for merchandising purposes, including paper goods such as cups and posters.
Being the clever businesswoman that she is, Kulture‘s mom also filed documents on February 25 for “okurr” with one less “r.”
The artist wanted to use the saying — which she once described to Jimmy Fallon as a “cold pigeon in New York City” — on “clothing, namely, T-shirts, sweatshirts, hooded sweatshirts, pants, shorts, jackets, footwear, headgear, namely, hats and caps, blouses, bodysuits, dresses, jumpsuits, leggings, skirts, sweaters, undergarments.”
In a deleted social media video, the MC defended her decision to trademark her infamous slogan.
Referencing the fact that people constantly ask her to make the famous sound, Cardi said:

“Let me tell you something… You think i ain’t gonna profit off that?!”

Explaining that “white folks” do it all the time, she added:

“While I’m here, I’m gonna secure all the bags!”

However, as we EXCLUSIVELY wroteBroadway actress Laura Bell Bundy filed for the “okurr” trademark… a year ago!
The thespian — who started saying it in her “Shocantelle Brown” YouTube skits over 10 years ago — plans on coming out with a special t-shirt, and possibly more items, for charity very soon.
Trademark drama aside, Cardi is set to appear in Hustlers, a flick co-produced by costar Jennifer Lopez!
Based on the 2016 New York Magazine article “The Hustlers at Scores” by Jessica Pressler, the movie — also starring Constance Wu, Riverdale‘s Lili Reinhart, Julia Stiles, and Keke Palmer — is about a crew of savvy former strip club employees who band together to turn the tables on their Wall Street clients.
