On Day 4 of her marathon of testimony, Cassie Ventura is opening up about when she decided to leave Diddy for good.
While on the stand this week, the 38-year-old singer bravely spoke out about the horrific physical and sexual abuse she dealt with throughout her decade-long on-and-off relationship. But was the last straw for her? The moment she knew she needed to be done with Diddy once and for all? On Friday, Cassie testified she broke up with the disgraced music mogul after she saw a picture of him with another woman named Gina. This was in August 2018. He “lied” to Cassie about the other woman — and that betrayal is ultimately what made her leave.
She texted him, per ABC 7 Los Angeles:
“I just don’t trust anymore. That last shot put the nail in the coffin. I promised myself I wouldn’t be with you anymore if you did that to me again.”
Cassie accused the rapper, saying “you lied to me” and complained “she never went away.” The relationship was over from there. The Me & U artist said she never participated in another “freak-off” following the breakup.
She also began dating her husband, Alex Fine, soon afterward. However, Diddy didn’t cut off all communication with Cassie.
According to CNN, the jury learned the pair texted each other at different points in 2019 and 2020. The Bad Boy Records founder sent her messages in March and May 2019, saying, “Sending you love.” When Cassie was pregnant with her and Alex’s first child, he texted:
“Congratulations Cass I truly am happy for you, you’re going to make a beautiful mother god bless.”
She then replied:
“Thank you God Bless.”
A year later, Diddy reached out again. He texted, “Miss my best friend, hope you’re well.” Cassie responded, this time sending her well wishes to him and his family. But the conversation didn’t end there. He then sent back:
“Thank you so much for responding, it really means a lot more than you know. Sending you nothing but love and light always. Please know I’m always here if you need me.”
Later messages saw Diddy telling Cassie that things had “definitely been rough without your friendship” and he has “nothing but love for you always.” Despite all the pain she endured during their relationship, the performer responded she never hated him and wouldn’t be at a “beautiful point” in life without him. She continued in a separate long response:
“Tears of joy I don’t even know what to say.”
“I hope you can forgive me.”
“We’re honestly lucky to be alive. God was watching over us.”
“We went hard.”
Diddy expressed he was glad she found someone who loves and respects her how she deserves, and he didn’t just want to chat over text. He wanted an in-person meeting and asked to set up a time, adding:
“I send this message with all respect for your marriage.”
However, Cassie and Diddy never met up after the conversation. And you can’t blame her, considering her accusations against him. Based on what we’ve learned from her testimony so far, we don’t want to think about what would’ve happened if she did see him again…
