Why, Wen Zhang?! Why?! We trusted you!
Okay, we’ve actually never heard of you before this — but still, it all makes for a good story.
Turns out, he’s one of China’s biggest stars, which meant big trouble for him when Wen publicly tweeted out his condolences over cheating on his wife, Ma Yili, with his co-star Yao Di on Weibo, which is basically the Chinese equivalent of Twitter.
Wen and Yao act together on the Chinese show Naked Marriage, and now his infidelity has left the state of his marriage naked for us all to see!
Here was his guilty admission:
“I have brought this upon myself. A mistake is a mistake. This has nothing to do with anyone else. Today, I am willing to accept all the consequences. I├óΓé¼Γäóve let down Ma Yili and our children. My mistake does not deserve to be forgiven, and it will be difficult for me to make amends for all the harm I├óΓé¼Γäóve caused. But I want to do it. I have to do it. This is what I├óΓé¼Γäóll do for the rest of my life.”
In just 10 hours, the tweet had over 2.5 million comments, and was retweeted more than a million times! Sure it’s no Oscars selfie, but that’s a Weibo record!
Meanwhile, Ma, who is pregnant with Wen’s second child, tweeted this out in response:
“Being in love is easy, being married is not. It is to be cherished.”
Truer words have never been tweeted, on Weibo or otherwise!
