Chris Harrison Explains That HUGE Fantasy Suite Twist On Peter Weber's Season Of 'The Bachelor'!

Chris Harrison is answering one of Bachelor Nation’s biggest burning questions following an unexpected twist on this week’s episode of The Bachelor.

ICYMI, the final three women vying for Peter Weber‘s heart were awkwardly forced to live together during the highly-anticipated Fantasy Suite dates in which the 28-year-old airline pilot spends an uninterrupted night alone and off-camera with each lucky lady. The news came as a shock to finalists Madison Prewitt, Hannah Ann Sluss, and Victoria Fuller (and to all of the viewers at home!) since this was a first for the ABC dating franchise — but apparently, there’s a really important reason for it all!

Before we jump into Harrison’s explanation, the awkwardness of this entire scenario cannot be understated. These dates provide a safe environment for contestants and the lead to communicate freely and ask all of the hard questions ahead of the finale/final proposal. Of course, couples often use this time to get intimate with each other, too! It’s not hard to see how this can get uncomfortable when each woman returns the morning after with their own account of what went down with Peter. It sounds like the show’s execs were banking on this and we can probably thank Hannah Brown and the aftermath of her juicy windmill story for this one, too!

The series’ longtime host shared details behind the producers’ decision to switch things up this time around during an appearance on the Bachelor Happy Hour podcast, co-hosted by former Bachelorettes Becca Kufrin and Rachel Lindsay. Harrison began:

“There are times when, no matter how great you are, but you can’t get out of your own way, and that’s why you are single.”

Chris said it was imperative for the show’s timeline that Peter could make a firm and informed decision about his feelings:

“Peter, for example, has trouble making decisions. I don’t know if you guys have noticed that. The king of kicking the can down the road. Heaven forbid you make a decision.”

Well, he’s not wrong about that part. Weber’s choices have confused us all season, to say the least! He continued:

“There are things we do as producers that will force you into this uncomfortable zone and force you into making this decision. Sometimes we will do it for your behalf, sometimes we will do it for the the guys or the girls.”

This decision seemed to be more about the women since Prewitt gave Weber an ultimatum that if he’d slept with Fuller or Sluss, she’d leave him. Madison revealed her stance stemmed from a personal decision to remain a virgin until marriage and she felt deeply uncomfortable with the idea of her potential future husband spreading himself around. The problem is, she waited until the very last minute to open up about it!

Producers created a scenario where Madison could no longer hide her feelings about Peter's sexual activity with the other women.

Both Prewitt and Weber were forced to come to terms with their differing beliefs before things went any further:

“And so this was to force a situation that had to happen, and it had to happen this week. If we get to proposal week, then this guy is really screwed and there’s no chance this works. We got to figure this out, and there is really only one way to do it.”

Harrison continued:

“Yeah, it was tough love, and it was really awkward, and again, in the history of the show, I don’t know if we’ve ever done this. But we decided to do it this week because there are conversations that needed to be had, and it was because I think the double standard and the things that Peter was gonna deal with, we needed the women’s perspective on this. We needed Madison to face Victoria and Hannah Ann and have them express their emotions on this. Because, again, it’s just this guy and his perspective, and I don’t know if that’s the greatest thing right now.”

Those who caught Monday night’s episode know things didn’t exactly pan out well after pilot Pete admitted to getting “intimate” on his Fantasy Suite dates but did not divulge details. Not nearly as bad as when Luke P. went all “holier than thou” on Miz Brown, but still uncomfortable to watch, nonetheless! Viewers were left with a cliffhanger as Prewitt excused herself from their tense conversation about it all — and we’ll have to sit tight until next week to see how things shape up!

In the meantime, watch Chris Harrison spill the tea in his own words (below):

Perezcious readers, got anything to say about all this? Do U agree with Chris Harrison’s take about a double standard existing in conversations like these? Sound OFF with your thoughts in the comments…
