Chris Rock & His Wife Call It Quits After Nearly 20 Years

Chris Rock and his wife Malaak Compton-Rock are splitting up after almost 20 years of marriage.
Malaak released a statement about the split, saying:

“After much contemplation and 19 years of marriage, Chris and I have decided to go our separate ways. While recognizing that this is a significant change, my children remain at the center of my life and their well-being is my top priority.”

The couple’s children together are 12-year-old Lola Simone and 10-year-old Zahra Savannah.
The comedian’s lawyer, Robert S. Cohen, confirmed that they have filed divorce papers.
He said:

“Chris Rock has filed for divorce from his wife, Malaak. This is a personal matter and Chris requests privacy as he and Malaak work through this process and focus on their family.”

We’re sending love and light to the couple as they navigate their way through this tough time.
UPDATE: According to a source close to the couple, the split was not exactly a surprise to anyone.
They dished:

“This was a long time coming. Chris has known it wasn’t salvageable for a while. He was the one to file because he knew it was time to just move forward already.”

Well at least he had the sense to end it quickly like pulling off a bandaid, instead of letting their problems fester and grow worse!
