No one told Clay Aiken running for Congress would be easy. And if they did, he should probably fire them from his campaign.
The former American Idol star participated in his first political debate on Monday night, and it was a slugfest!

Clay’s opponent, Republican Renee Elmers, took jab after jab at Clay, mostly related to his career as an entertainer.
She even blamed him for the economy, which doesn’t make a whole lot of sense given that she’s the incumbent and he hasn’t actually served in Congress at all yet.

This isn’t the first time Renee has taken potshots at him, including making fun of him for losing on Idol.
But Clay held his own, and even got in the best line of the night, quipping:
“The most embarrassing reality show in the country right now is Congress.”
Ooh, burn! It would be hilarious if it weren’t so sadly accurate!
Underdog Clay has one month to rally voters in the largely Republican district. We wish him luck.
