Clive Davis passed away at age 94 at his Manhattan home on Monday, his family told The New York Times. Clive had recently been hospitalized with respiratory problems.
The Grammy-winning record producer went from working in a midlevel legal role at Columbia Records with no professional music background to being one of the industry’s most influential figures, shaping the careers of stars like Whitney Houston, Bruce Springsteen, Janis Joplin, Aerosmith, Carlos Santana, Pink Floyd, Patti Smith, and many more. He went on to start several labels, including Arista in 1974, Bad Boy in 1994 (with Diddy), and J Records in 2000. Until his passing, he worked as Chief Creative Officer at Sony Music.
He truly left a lasting legacy in the music scene! May he rest in peace.
