This is wonderful news. She’s such a fighter.

Sources in Tucson, Arizona are reporting progress for U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, the congresswoman who was shot in the head this weekend by a crazed young man.

Her doctors reveal that Rep. Giffords is still in critical condition in the ICU at Tucson’s University Medical Center, but she is showing improvement. On Monday, the congresswoman reportedly was responding to verbal commands by raising two fingers of her left hand and even managed to give a thumbs-up.

Fantastic! Every little step is a good sign, we think.

Her doctors agree, especially since her latest CAT scans showed no further swelling in the brain, but the doctors still have some doubts. Her neurosurgeon, Dr. Michael Lemole, explained:

“We’re not out of the woods yet. That swelling can sometimes take three days or five days to maximize. But every day that goes by and we don’t see an increase, we’re slightly more optimistic.”

Let’s keep that optimism going then! She sounds like a survivor to us and we have no doubt she can pull through this.

Our thoughts remain with her and all the other victims of this senseless crime as they fight for their lives. You are all so brave and strong. Wipe that smug smirk right off that cruel man’s face.
