Days Of Our Lives Canceled Actors Fired Hiatus

__________

Has the hourglass finally run out of sand?

We regret to inform all our soap-loving readers we know are still out there of the following:

It looks like Days Of Our Lives is coming to an end. Nothing is official yet, but the writing is on the wall — and the writing on the actors’ contracts is in the trash!

TV Line got the scoop Tuesday morning; the producers of the classic soap opera have released ALL of the actors from their contracts.

Every. Single. One.

Yeah, that can’t be good.

Again, the show hasn’t been officially canceled — in fact, neither Sony nor NBC agreed to comment to the outlet on the story — according to these sources the production is going into an “indefinite hiatus” at the end of the month.

And no, this is not some kind of gimmick to get people to watch. The ratings have indeed been circling the drain for the past few years for all daytime soaps (blame Netflix and the ability to binge whatever you want whenever you want). And Days has the lowest ratings of any of the four remaining network soaps. Not even the specter of losing the show forever can bring the show back to its heyday, and NBC knows that.

Days Of Our Lives began almost exactly 54 years ago today, premiering on November 8, 1965 and airing new episodes almost every weekday since.

For those invested in the characters — and particularly in the surprising current storyline in which the show has time jumped an entire year — there is some good news.

Because the show shoots eight months in advance, there will be enough episodes banked to last until March 2020. After that? The best we can say is nothing is decided for certain yet, so far as anyone knows.

The best chance fans have with such a harsh move as letting all the actors go? It could be an extreme cost-cutting measure. One insider points out:

“It’s actually a shrewd — if cynical — business move. If Days gets picked up, [Corday Productions] can offer the actors new contacts at a reduced rate and with a ‘take-it-or-leave’ it attitude. Worst case scenario, they lose half their cast. Best case scenario [for Corday], everyone agrees to return at a lower salary.”

That would be a bit of a slap in the face for the actors — but some might still return. Steady work is steady work, and it’s not something promised in show business.

Do YOU think this is the end of Days?
