A MAJOR step in the right direction!!!! We’re absolutely THRILLED to hear this!!!
Back in July, we were very pleased to hear that President Barack Obama was moving forward with his support of the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).
As a reminder, DOMA “allows states not to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states and provides a federal definition for ‘marriage’ that excludes same-sex couples.”
Now, we’ve learned that the Senate Judiciary Committee has voted to move forward with a bill THAT WOULD REPEAL THE DEFENSE OF MARRIAGE ACT! HOORAY!!!!!
The bill was introduced into the Senate back in March by hero/Democratic California Sen. Dianne Feinstein, and it NOW has 30 cosponsors!
We’ll look forward to hearing more about this soon! We are making SO MUCH progress on the road to marriage equality!
