Mike Johnson Gushes Over His Date With 'Amazing' Demi Lovato & Shades ABC's Lack Of 'Bachelor' Diversity!

It is on between The Bachelorette star Mike Johnson and Demi Lovato!!

Just a few days ago, we learned the 31-year-old and the pop star started to get acquainted after their first official date together.

Well, it turns out their initial outing went so well Johnson had a lot to say about it when Entertainment Tonight caught up with the reality TV star on Wednesday.

Hannah Brown‘s ex proudly confirmed his new love interest to the outlet, saying:

“Demi Lovato and I went on a date. The woman is quite astounding and amazing. And that’s all I’ll say on that.”

Johnson kept the details minimal with ET, but he did have a lot more to say about his encounter(s) — yes, he hints at more than one! — with the Confident singer on the Bachelor Happy Hour podcast with Rachel Lindsay and Ali Fedotowsky-Manno. He gushed:

“I think she’s amazing. She’s incredibly humble. When Demi and I are together, it’s laughter and we talk about real s**t. Like, she’s a down-to-earth woman and I respect it so much. And she’s just a really humble, really cool, really fun, down-to-earth person.”

He also clarified the pair’s official relationship status at this point, adding:

“My status of the relationship with Demi and I are that we are two people exploring each other.”

Yasss!

We’re excited to hear things are moving along well for the couple, especially considering how vocal Lovato was about her interest in Mike from the time he appeared on S15 of The Bachelorette.

Remember all of those flirty Instagram comments between ’em? And, when fans caught wind of it and practically begged them to start dating?! Yeah, this connection was long overdue!

The ABC star also sent fans into a frenzy when he left a casual comment about double dating on fellow Bach alum Tyler Cameron‘s recent shirtless IG photo. As we’ve been reporting, Gigi Hadid and Tyler are very much an item. So, naturally, fans speculated this hypothetical joint outing would be with Demi and the supermodel. Which might be too hot to handle! Ha!

Between this tea and the recent Bachelor announcement, it’s been a busy few days for Mike.

As we told you, producers decided to cast 28-year-old airline pilot Peter Weber as their leading man, disappointing half of Bachelor Nation who believed Johnson deserved the job.

The portfolio manager noted there is still a need for diverse representation within the rose-filled franchise during his sit-down with ET. He said:

“I think of diversity more than just black and white. And yes, Peter has a Cuban mom, but let’s just be honest — he’s white, right? And that’s just being completely transparent. I think that there should be an Asian lead, an Indian lead… diversity is not just black and white. It’s not just salt and pepper.”

The Bachelor in Paradise alum said he agreed with former lead Rachel Lindsay who recently slammed the powers-that-be at ABC for another safe, “boring” choice in choosing Weber:

“Congratulations to Peter first and foremost. Then in regards to what Rachel was saying, I do agree with Rachel, that after 24 Bachelors, a black Bachelor should have been cast. But at the same time, ABC has been successful. They know what they’re doing for their audience. They know what they’re looking for. I wasn’t the guy they were looking for at the moment.”

Ugh. The man is handsome, well-spoken, clearly passionate, and up until a few days ago — he was totally ready for the job! However, he did offer a theory about why he wasn’t picked:

“Why do I think it wasn’t me? I have no idea. I can only speak on my personality and the wonderful man that I am. I do know that Peter and I are two completely different people — both good people, kind-hearted people. But I do feel that I’m a bit more outspoken than Peter. I’m a bit louder than Peter is. I have tattoos, and the obvious, I’m black, so we are very diverse and different in that regard as well. And we like different women. I want to make sure the focus is centered around love because that’s what this show is about. So, Peter and I also are attracted to two different types of women as well.”
