Three of Demi Lovato‘s close friends just got the axe — on social media, at least.
Fans are buzzing with speculation after the 26-year-old recently unfollowed Selena Gomez, Nick Jonas, and Iggy Azalea on Instagram.

While social media “likes” and “followers” may seem like an innocuous thing to most, it’s a bit different in this case.
The Sober singer is still dealing with the aftermath of her scary, nearly fatal overdose in late July. Lovato has already proven she’s serious about recovery recently, by starting fresh with a new phone number. Could this be the next step in a purge of her old life and embracing a new one?
Still though, it’s kind of strange to unfollow Nick especially since it appears that she still follows Joe Jonas, Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Jonas, and their parents. Not to mention, the Chains singer tweeted out a show of support for her when the news broke of the overdose.

Australian-born rapper Iggy also showed her bestie love this year, telling the media that she was hopeful her gal pal would turn her experience into “something positive,” additionally asking for everyone to respect the singer’s privacy.
And as for Sel? The former Barney & Friends stars still follow each other on Twitter, for now. Gomez was also very upset when she heard the sad news about her friend, and even reached out to her personally to offer support, saying:
“All I’m saying is, I reached out personally. I didn’t do a public thing. I didn’t want to. I … I love her. I’ve known her since I was 7. So … it’s … that’s what I’ll say.”
It sounds like she did the right thing here too, especially since we know Demi isn’t a fan of fake friends chatting with the media during such a sensitive time.
Maybe the Sorry Not Sorry singer just needs to cleanse herself of outside noise while focusing on herself, who knows? But we just hope whichever friends get closer to fill this void have her best interests at heart.
