DeNiro's Restaurants Are Serving Endangered Tuna

Don’t mess with Greenpeace!

Expect some grief if you eff with an endangered species!

For years, Robert DeNiro‘s fancy schmancy sushi spot Nobu, which he co-owns, has refused to identify which species of tuna it serves at its ridiculously priced spots all over the world. Requests for the information by Greenpeace campaigners have been only met with a terse “no comment”.

Well, Greenpeace has showed that when there’s a will, there’s a way!

According to the UK’s Telegraph, investigators from Greenpeace recently hit up three London-area Nobu restaurants, ordered tuna dishes and smuggled bits of the tuna out of the restaurants to a lab for DNA testing!

Tests found that the tuna served at all three of the London Nobu locations are Atlantic bluefin.

It’s not illegal to serve the Atlantic bluefin tuna species, but many chefs, including Gordon Ramsay, have dropped it because of concern that fishing is at higher levels than stocks can withstand.

Crazy stuff!

Wonder if Mr. DeNiro will make some environmentally sound changes to the tuna buying for his Nobu restaurants?
