Diane Sawyer is leaving ABC’s Good Morning America for bigger and better things!
Sawyer will be taking the place of ABC World News anchor Charles Gibson starting in January, when he retires!
What will this mean for GMA? And their ratings!
Diane is the second female anchor ever to make the move from daytime to nighttime – the first was Katie Couric when she left NBC’s Today for CBS’ Evening News back in 2006.
ABC News President David Westin has shared some positively glowing remarks about Sawyer with the press, stating that Diane “is the right person to succeed Charlie and build on what he has accomplished.”
Westin’s raving continued: “She has an outstanding and varied career in television journalism, beginning with her role as a State Department correspondent and continuing at 60 Minutes, Primetime Live, and Good Morning America.”
Impressive!
Weston says Sawyer will “continue with her documentaries” on World News and believes the network is “fortunate” to have a journalist of Diane’s caliber joining the World News team.
Congrats!
